What makes a PDF large
- Oversized images. Phone photos and screenshots are often several times larger than the space they fill on the page. This is the main cause, and the main fix.
- Embedded fonts. A PDF can carry complete font files. PPTCompress trims them to only the characters the document uses.
- Unused structure. Leftover objects from editing are cleaned up when the file is rewritten.
Reduce the size step by step
- Upload the PDF above.
- Check the estimated new size and, if you like, open individual images to compare.
- If the file must be very small, pick Email. If it will be printed, pick Print.
- Compress and download.
| Preset | Image resolution | JPEG quality | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 DPI | 72 | Attachments, sharing, viewing on screen | |
| Balanced | 150 DPI | 80 | Most files. Sharp on any laptop or projector |
| 220 DPI | 88 | Office printing and handouts | |
| Archive | 300 DPI | 92 | Keeping a high quality master that is still smaller |
Resolution and quality can also be set by hand under Advanced.

Make it smaller still
If the result is still too large, lower the resolution under Advanced. Around 100 to 120 DPI is fine for anything that will only be read on a screen. You can also untick images you want left exactly as they are, such as a signature or a detailed chart.
Questions
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on how much of it is images. Image heavy PDFs often shrink a lot; text only PDFs very little. The estimate shows the exact figure before you compress.
Can I reduce PDF size without losing quality?
Mostly yes. Images keep enough resolution for the size they are shown at, and text and vectors are not touched, so on screen most people cannot tell the difference at the Balanced or Print preset.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no sign up.
What happens to my files?
They are processed on our server and deleted within 60 minutes, along with the compressed copy. We do not look at them, keep them, or use them for anything else. Your original on your own computer is never changed; you download a new file.
How large a file can I upload?
Up to 30 MB free / 95 MB paid per file.
Will the file ever get bigger?
No. If the compressed result would not be smaller, you are told and you simply keep your original.
