How to compress a PowerPoint
- Drop your
.pptxor.pptabove, or click Choose files. - See the estimated size and which pictures take up the most space.
- Choose Balanced for presenting, Email for sharing, Print for handouts.
- Click Compress and download your new deck. You get back the same format you uploaded,
so a
.pptstays a.ppt.
Old .ppt files work too
Decks saved in the PowerPoint 97 to 2003 format are supported. Every picture is resized to the
box it fills on the slide, exactly as with .pptx, and uncompressed bitmaps, common in
old decks, are turned into compact JPEG or PNG. Slides, text, animations and notes are left as they
were and the file stays a .ppt.

Two clean ups are .pptx only: merging duplicate copies of the same picture and
removing pictures the deck no longer uses. Drawings stored as metafiles (EMF or WMF) are left
untouched in both formats.
Why PowerPoint files get so large
- Full size photos in small boxes. PowerPoint keeps the whole original picture even when you shrink it on the slide.
- Cropped pictures still carry the cropped part. Cropping in PowerPoint only hides it. PPTCompress accounts for crops when it works out how many pixels each picture needs.
- The same logo on every slide. Templates often embed identical images many times. These are merged into one.
- Pictures that are no longer used. Deleted slides can leave media behind in the file. Those are removed.

| 220 DPI | 88 | Office printing and handouts | |
| Archive | 300 DPI | 92 | Keeping a high quality master that is still smaller |

Questions
Can I compress a .ppt file?
Yes. Old PowerPoint 97 to 2003 files are supported. Pictures are resized to the box they fill, and you download a smaller .ppt.
Will my animations, notes and layouts survive?
Yes. Only the pictures are recompressed. Slides, text, animations, transitions and speaker notes are left as they were.
Does it compress videos inside the deck?
No, only images. If a deck is large because of an embedded video, that part stays the same size.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no sign up.
What happens to my files?
They are processed on our server and deleted within 60 minutes, along with the compressed copy. We do not look at them, keep them, or use them for anything else. Your original on your own computer is never changed; you download a new file.
How large a file can I upload?
Up to 30 MB free / 95 MB paid per file.
Will the file ever get bigger?
No. If the compressed result would not be smaller, you are told and you simply keep your original.
