Working…

Where PPTCompress does better

  1. PowerPoint in, PowerPoint out. No round trip through PDF. Smallpdf's own guide compresses the deck as a PDF, then exports it back to .pptx.
  2. Animations and media stay. Nothing is converted, so animations, transitions, embedded media and speaker notes are kept. Smallpdf's guide tells you to keep the source deck if you need to restore animations or media.
  3. Old .ppt stays .ppt. A PowerPoint 97-2003 deck comes back in the same format. Smallpdf's route exports a .pptx.
  4. Every quality setting is free. Pick the resolution and JPEG quality on the free plan. On Smallpdf, the Moderate and Strong compression levels are Pro features.
  5. Each picture sized to its box. Pictures are resized to the space they actually fill on the slide, with an estimate and a before and after preview before anything is written.
  6. Never bigger than the original. The result is checked; if it is not smaller, you are told and keep your original.

When Smallpdf may suit you better

Smallpdf is a broad PDF suite with editing, e-signatures and apps, in many more languages. If your goal is a PDF, or you need those tools, it may suit you better. For a smaller PowerPoint that stays a PowerPoint, PPTCompress avoids the conversion.

Questions

Does Smallpdf compress PowerPoint directly?

Will converting through PDF change my slides?

It can. Smallpdf's own guide advises keeping the source deck if you need to restore animations or media.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no sign up.

What happens to my files?

They are processed on our server and deleted within 60 minutes, along with the compressed copy. We do not look at them, keep them, or use them for anything else. Your original on your own computer is never changed; you download a new file.

Up to 30 MB free / 95 MB paid per file.

Will the file ever get bigger?

No. If the compressed result would not be smaller, you are told and you simply keep your original.
